Dr. Barry Yu

Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.), University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, U.S.A.

Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with Honours), University of California, Davis, U.S.A.

Dr. Barry Yu earned his dental degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He has been practising since 2007, across the United States, Hong Kong, and Singapore, and co-founded Penn Pacific Dental Center with Dr. Chrissie Lam. He is licensed to practise in Singapore and California, and has passed the Hong Kong Dental Council licensing examination.

He focuses on cases where patients are in pain, a tooth is infected, or a tooth may be cracked. His work includes root canal treatment and retreatment, dental abscess management, cracked tooth assessment, and planning the restoration with crowns or bridges.

Dr. Yu has undertaken postgraduate training in endodontics. All root canal treatment at Penn Pacific is performed under a dental operating microscope. The canals are small and cracks do not always show clearly on X-rays, so working under magnification matters for both diagnosis and precision.

He explains what he sees, what it means, and what the options are before any treatment starts.

CBCT scans are used when needed for diagnosis and treatment planning.

Why a Microscope?

Most dental procedures are done with either the naked eye or low magnification such as loupes. For routine work, that is often sufficient. For root canal treatment and cracked tooth assessment, higher magnification matters more.

Root canals are small and canal systems can branch and curve. Cracks can be subtle and do not always show clearly on X-rays. Working under a dental operating microscope improves illumination and magnification, which supports both assessment and precise work during treatment.
